Girl Scouts celebrate Divas in Fayette

The Girl Scouts of Pine Valley Council recently held their annual fund-raiser and awards dinner to celebrate three women in Fayette County who were honored as Divas of Girl Scouting.

Betsy Getreu received the Strong Leadership Award from the Girl Scouts. Getreu offers full-time technology support to several schools in the area, and she and her husband have started a scholarship program to give laptops to deserving high school seniors. Getreu was nominated as a Girl Scout Diva by Karen Davis, Sonya Tucker, Linda Wilson, Susan Piribek and Sally McWilliams.

The Strong Values Award was given to Dr. Elizabeth Killebrew. Dr. Killebrew promotes women’s education and health in schools, churches and hospitals around the area, and sets and example as a church youth leader. She was nominated for the Girl Scout Diva award by her daughter, Sarah Killebrew.

Lee McKinney received the Strong Spirit Award. As an active volunteer, Lee serves her community by helping plan school and church events, cooking for her Wednesday night church meetings and serving on the Endowment Committee for the Cultural Arts board. She was nominated by Amy Vassey.

Judi Kubitz, a Master Gardener, served as the event’s keynote speaker. Kubitz works at Andy's Nursery in Fayetteville as a resident expert and teacher. Kubitz was also the cover woman of Fayette Woman magazine in March.

The event, held March 25 at the Wyndham Peachtree Hotel and Conference Center in Peachtree City, raised over $20,000 for the Girl Scouts of Pine Valley Council, Inc.
