Baby Time program to have visitor in April

When one hears how many activities get squeezed into the 45 minutes a week for the Baby Time program at the Fayette County Public Library, it is enough to make anyone crave a nap.

Children ages 0-24 months enjoy the weekly program, which features play time, bubbles, sing-alongs, circle time and read-alongs with parents or caregivers. Now, parents get a segment of the program of their own where Fayetteville resident Dr. LaVeta Small, Ph.D., a developmental psychologist, discusses different child development topics during the children’s playtime.

Dr. Small is co-owner and president of Management Consulting Services, Inc., a management and human resources development firm, but she has also served as dean of students at Spelman College and assistant vice president within the Student Affairs Division at the University of South Carolina, among many other titles she held in over 16 years of experience in higher education. She has also developed and evaluated a federal program in the U.S. Virgin Islands aimed at preventing delinquency and initial drug use among youth, recently completed the evaluation of the Georgia Department of Education Reading First Project and is a board member of Cool Girls, a self empowerment program for low income girls. Dr. Small has already addressed the parents and caregivers at Baby Time once, discussing discipline, and all are looking forward to her three visits scheduled for April.

Baby Time meets at the Fayette County Public Library at 10 a.m. every Wednesday. For more information, phone 770-461-8841.
