Annual plant sale April 24

Every year smart gardeners converge on the Georgia Native Plant Society’s annual sale to find the best selection of flowers, shrubs and some trees to grow in the region. Plant stock comes from rescue projects organized by the society to preserve desirable native plants threatened by development, and from generous donations by plant nurseries specializing in Georgia natives.

As valuable as the plant material is, the expert advice available from members is priceless. Experts can answer questions about bird, butterfly and wildlife gardening, plant selection for specific environments, how to deal with invasive pest plants, and a host of other topics. Plants go fast, especially the always in demand native azaleas, so gardeners are advised to come early for the best selection.

This year’s sale is Saturday, April 24, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the main parking lot on the north side of the Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road, in Atlanta. Admission is free and the sale is open to the public.

For further information, members of the public should call 770-343-6000 or visit www.gnps.org.

The Georgia Native Plant Society was founded in 1994 as a nonprofit, charitable, and educational organization. Its goal is to know native plants and to make them known to others. GNPS activities are designed to promote the conservation of Georgia’s native plants and habitats through education, research and the relocation of plants threatened with destruction. To grow a plant is to know it; therefore, GNPS encourages the appropriate use of native plants in gardens and in landscape.
