Thinking like a soldier

By DR. KNOX HERNDON
Pastor

This came from my good friend Jeff Green in Korea. Although most of us are civilians who will be reading this, I believe he has a lot to say to us spiritually. God Bless you, Jeff, as you serve.

Our military experience can teach us a lot about spiritual warfare! Take the following as an example:

1. If the enemy is in range, so are you. St. Peter tells us that our adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. So keep your distance!

2. Incoming fire has the right of way. Avoid even the appearance of evil; otherwise, you’ll get hit!

3. The easy way is always mined. But the Narrow Road leads to life!

4. Try to look unimportant, they may be low on ammo. Pride usually comes before a fall, so let's maintain a humble walk before God!

5. Professionals are predictable; it’s the amateurs that are dangerous. Knowing a little about the Bible is never enough. We need to diligently study and know God’s word!

6. The enemy invariably attacks on one of two occasions: When you’re ready for them, and when you’re not ready for them. We’re told to always be ready with an answer to those who ask about our hope in God!

7. If it’s stupid but works, it isn’t stupid. Walking by faith may seem foolish, but it’s the wisdom of God!

8. Anything you do can get you shot, including doing nothing. We're told that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, so do something!

9. The quartermaster has only two sizes: too large and too small. But one size fits all when it comes to the armor of God!

10. Five-second fuses only last three seconds. And three second fuses can last an eternity when lit the right way!

11. It’s generally inadvisable to eject directly over the area you’ve just bombed. And we should continually pray, “Deliver us from evil!”

Thinking like a soldier can help us to win some of our spiritual battles. Let's make a point to study spiritual soldiering and obtain the victories of life!

Amen, Jeff.
