Local students chosen for Governor’s Honors

Eight Coweta County students have been invited to participate in the 2004 Governor’s Honors Program this summer in Valdosta.

The students who have been chosen to attend the prestigeous summer study program are:

• Daniel Sizemore from Central Educational Center in architectural design.

• Tarun Patel from East Coweta High in Chemistry.

• Nicholas Sears from East Coweta High in social studies.

• Megan McCoy from Newnan High in voice-Alto.

• Elizabeth Turner from Newnan High in visual arts.

• Daniel Baker from Northgate High in physics.

• Justin Romeo from Northgate High in Spanish.

• Chloe Waddington from Northgate High in French.

“That is a tremendous honor for these students and an honor for their schools as well. Every school had students chosen to attend this year’s Governor’s Honors Program,” said middle and high school curriculum director Barbara Kendrick. Students are chosen wholly on their academic merits, Kendrick noted, “and I congratulate their parents and teachers for this honor as well.”

The Governor’s Honors Program is a six-week summer instructional program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented high school students challenging and enriching educational opportunities not usually available during the regular school year.

Rising juniors and seniors in Georgia’s public and private high schools may be nominated for consideration by their teachers in a specific instructional area in which their abilities, aptitudes and interest lie. Activities are designed to provide each participant with opportunities to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to become independent, life-long learners.
