Bruce wins Burch poster contest

McLain Bruce, a fourth-grade student at Robert J. Burch Elementary, won a school-wide safety poster design contest for her poster entitled “Buckle Up For Your Kids.”

Students in grades 2-5 participated in the University of Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute’s annual poster contest in Donna Baena’s art classes. The mission of the poster contest is to positively promote the impact of the use of seatbelts and child safety seats.

“It was so hard to pick only one winner from the school. All the artwork by the students was outstanding and I could tell that they really understand the importance of wearing seat belts,” said Baena.

Schools from all over the state of Georgia are participating. Winners are selected at different levels (elementary, middle, and high school). The top winners from the state contest will have their artwork printed in the 2005 Georgia Safety Belt Calendar. A cash prize will also be awarded at a reception for the artists in May.
