Facing possible trials this week, two Fayette men have pled guilty to assaulting a man during a robbery in north Fayette County in 2002.

William Desean Jones, 22, of Fayetteville and Tariq Iba-Hakim Rachaman, 23, of north Fayette County pled guilty to aggravated assault with intent to rob, said Assistant District Attorney Jamie Inagawa.

The guilty pleas were contingent upon them testifying truthfully in the trial of a third suspect in the assault: Julian Charles Webb, 20, of north Fayette County. In return for the pleas, prosecutors dropped charges of armed robbery and kidnapping.

Webb’s trial on all three counts could begin as early as this week, Inagawa said. According to court documents, Webb previously lived next to the home in North Fayette Court where the incident occurred.

The victim told police he knew two of the three assailants because he went to summer school with them one year, Inagawa said.

The victim thought he was going to buy some wheel rims but was caught by surprise when one of the suspects jumped out from hiding and accosted him, Inagawa said.

The victim was held at gunpoint and forced to walk behind a nearby shed, strip down to his underwear and lie face down on the ground, police said. At one point during the confrontation, one of the suspects threatened to shoot the victim if he didn’t comply with their orders, police said.

The suspects took some cash and a handgun from the victim in addition to stripping audio-visual equipment from his vehicle, Inagawa said.
