Projects sought for volunteer ‘Community Action Day’ May 1

March 19 is the deadline for submitting work projects for consideration at the first ever Peachtree City Community Action Day, scheudled for Saturday, May 1.

That’s the day Peachtree City civic, religious, sports, and fraternal organizations will come together as one to “Build on a Vision,” according to city officials.

The goal: To have a multitude of projects undertaken by many different groups of people in one day, to “refresh spirit within our city.”

“A feeling of pride and renewed love for the community will be the reward for a day of service to our own,” according to information posted this week on the city’s Web site, www.peachtree-city.org.

According to Betsy Tyler, public information officer, the event is the brainchild of Mayor Steve Brown.

According to the information provided, community action day projects can fall into a number of areas. Among the projects already discussed by an organizing committee are:

• Clean up of old cemeteries in town.

• Repair and clean elderly residents gutters.

• Landscape and repair drainage issues at local play park.

• Assist handicapped residents with accessibility needs.

The committee is seeking volunteer groups to take on projects and has distributed information been distributed to the city’s churches, civic groups, scouting organizations, sports leagues, and fraternal orders.

The goal is to get a group of Girl Scouts working with a group from the Rotary Club. Or soccer moms may find themselves teamed up with the Pioneers Club.

Anyone who wants to help will be used. To sign up, offer project suggestions or get more information, call 770-487-8901.
