Collins hosts prospective academy applicants

U.S. Rep. Mac Collins will host three Service Academy Awareness Nights for high school students interested in attending one of America’s military service academies.

The first such event is tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Fayette County Library, 140 Stonewall Avenue West in Fayetteville. Others sessions are scheduled for March 23 at Harris County High School in Hamilton and March 30 at Douglas County Citizen’s Hall in Douglasville.

The Academy Nights will include an introduction to the service academies, which include the U.S. Military Academy at West Point (Army), the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy.

Students will learn about the qualifications needed to attend one of the academies, the admissions process, and the nominating procedures.

Collins makes several nominations each year on behalf of candidates to the service academies and is is proud of the reputation that Georgia students have had there and in fulfilling their responsibilities as military leaders.

Students interested in attending one of the Service Academy Awareness Nights should contact their high school guidance counselors, or call Chuck Hunsaker at Collins’ Columbus District Office at 706-327-7228.
