Trippy Mushroom descends on Peachtree City

Peachtree City residents have been flocking in droves to the Mellow Mushroom on Ga. Highway 74.

The pizza franchise has 45 locations spread throughout five states, is known for its tasty pies and sandwiches and recently staked out a space on Peachtree City’s busy Restaurant Row.

The restaurant features bright colors and its mushroom mascot spread throughout the space. Outside, a dining area, featuring a mushroom in a golf cart draws curious looks from diners enjoying the sunshine. My guess is this space will soon become a favorite after-work location for residents hungry for pizza and rays of sunshine.

But what about the food?

My dining group sampled several types of pizza, along with a sandwich. Everything was served hot, and the pizza was great. The crust is a little thicker than traditional New York-style pie, but was very flavorful.

The restaurant gets bonus points for not skimping on the toppings, since my slices were overrunning with pepperoni and sausage pellets.

The sandwich was also overflowing with ingredients, such as turkey, onions and lettuce and the half-size was perfect for lunch. The restaurant also features salads prepared fresh and an assortment of calzones.

Prices at the Mushroom range from $1.75 for a plain slice to $10.50 for a small pizza.

The Mushroom also gets points for some imaginative ingredients not found at other pizza joints. Artichoke hearts, jerk chicken, tofu and portabello mushrooms are just a few of the more unusual choices.

For a truly groovy experience, take a trip to the Mellow Mushroom.
