Fulton had big part in bringing new aviation training center

A local government partnership orchestrated by Fulton County played a critical “ground crew” role in bringing the new Alteon Atlanta Training Center to College Park.

The 52,000-square-foot building, which opened February 26 on six acres at 5155 Clipper Drive off Godby Road, can accommodate up to 200 pilots, maintenance technicians, and cabin crews trainees per day. It will initially serve AirTran Airways and Midwest Airlines and Boeing Business Jet operators.

Fulton, Atlanta, College Park and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport attracted the Boeing Company subsidiary with:

·A $60 million aviation bond issued by the Development Authority of Fulton County, an affiliate of the Fulton County Economic Development Department.

· Recruitment and pre-screening of highly skilled employees by the Office of Workforce Development, a division of the Fulton County Human Services Department.

· Infrastructure incentives by the City of College Park.

· Land incentives by the City of Atlanta, which owns the land and Hartsfield-Jackson.

“This is a wonderful example of the success that is possible when jurisdictions and entities work together,” said Commissioner William “Bill” Edwards, who represents District 7, where Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and Alteon are located.

“Alteon is another one of South Fulton County’s many ‘Good Things,’ such as the Old National Highway Streetscape Project, Chattahoochee Hill Country Alliance, and the tax allocation district for Camp Creek Marketplace.”

Alteon Training is the world's premier aviation training partner and the industry leader in providing customer-focused aviation training solutions.
