Students meet Tuskegee Airmen

Advanced art students, transition and work-based learning students from North Clayton High School participated in two exceptional cultural and historical experiences at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport February 20 and 27.

These select students experienced a program in conjunction with the airport to meet the Tuskegee Airmen. They also had a question/answer session with airport staff and experience the simulator in the Delta Area.

A special viewing of the Zimbabwe Exhibit was enjoyed by all the students.

North Clayton Students had a catered lunch while participating in a question/answer session with Lina James, Manager of Special Events and Jean Davis, Assistant Manager of Intergovernmental Affairs at the airport.

The trip was most rewarding and historical. Every student was enlightened with additional knowledge regarding Hartsfield-Jackson.

Since February is Black History Month, the students also had a chance to tour the Martin Luther King Exhibit featuring various artifacts from his childhood through his adult life.

The experience was arranged and scheduled by Lina James, Manager of Special Events at Hartsfield-Jackson, Jean Davis, Assistant Manager of Intergovernmental Affairs and Judy Nickel, Work-Based Learning Coordinator at North Clayton High School. Chaperones for the trips were JoAnn Cherry, RVI Coordinator, Jesse Spivey, Art Instructor, and Jan Rogers, Media Specialist.

North Clayton and Hartsfield-Jackson are Partners in Education. Both work very closely regarding job shadowing. The airport has been most generous regarding contributions and other special events involving North Clayton.
