Hearings set for school budget

Fulton County residents interested in this year’s school budget will have several opportunities to get a better feel for the massive document.

The school system recently announced a schedule for budget hearings through the spring and summer that allows residents to get a better grasp on how their tax money is spent. The schedule is:

Budget Work Session

April 29

Budget Work Session - Tentative millage rates adopted

May 6

Public Hearing #1 on millage rates

May 25

Public Hearing #2 on Millage Rates

May 25

6 p.m. Administrative Center

Public Hearing #3 on Millage Rates

Board Meeting - Final budget & final millage rates adopted

The schedule dates for adoption of budget and millage rates are contingent on the availability of tax digest information from tax officials.

Last year, The system's general fund was approved at $598.5 million. Last June, the board approved millage rates of 17.758 mills for maintenance and operation and 0.298 mill for retirement of bond debt, for a total of 18.056 mills.
