Schools Briefs Cox on agenda Sunday at PTC Library State School Superintendent Kathy Cox will appear at the Peachtree City Library in celebration of National Women's History Month Sunday at 2 p.m. Cox will be speaking about the new curriculum. A question-and-answer period will follow. As state school superintendent, Cox is the states top elected official over Georgia's K-12 public schools and the chief executive officer of the Board of Education. A resident of Fayette County, she was first elected to public office as a state representative in 1998. She received both her masters and bachelors degrees in political science from Emory University, where she graduated with high honors and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Cox ran for state school superintendent in 2002 to continue her service to Georgia's children. Her entire career has been devoted to education and to education-related issues. For 15 years, she worked with the Fayette County Board of Education as a Social Studies teacher. Peachtree City Library will be celebrating National Women's History Month the entire month of March with a special emphasis on the women of Fayette County. Stop by the library to view the special displays of famous women throughout history. Flat Rock students win for language Flat Rock students Rori Spivey and Whitney Judson were big winners at the annual Foreign Language Association of Georgia (FLAG) Speaking Contest. Rori walked away with a superior and Whitney received an excellent for their ability to speak French. The contest judges language students on their ability to carry on a conversation with an interviewer in their particular language. I was very proud of these girls. They were the only two middle school students from Fayette County to attend this year. They did an outstanding job, said Jeffre Ray, foreign language teacher. Both are French I students at Flat Rock. Evening High registration is Tuesday The Evening High School will be starting its fourth mini semester March 22. Registration is Tuesday, March 16, from 4:30-6 p.m. Any student wishing to pre-register may do so at the Evening High School office from 1-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Students enrolled in one of the countys high schools must see their counselor for written approval to enroll in a course and then both the student and a parent must register.
