Offer made to airport manager candidate By JOHN MUNFORD After meeting in executive session for 15 minutes Wednesday night, the Peachtree City Airport Authority took a big step toward hiring a new airport manager for Falcon Field. After the closed-door session, the authority voted unanimously in open session to extend an employment offer to John W. Crosby, former aviation director of the Concord, N.C. Airport. Crosby is familiar with the Atlanta area, having also worked previously at Peachtree-DeKalb Airport. Hes an excellent candidate, said Airport Authority Chairwoman Cathy Nelmes. People were really impressed with our field of candidates. Crosby, who lives in Blue Ridge, retired from the Concord position in March 2002 after it opened in 1995 and within five years it became the fourth busiest airport in North Carolina. The airport is home to the NASCAR Air Force, which has over 150 based aircraft with a tax base in excess of $100 million. Crosby retired from that job for family reasons but has indicated he is anxious to get back to work now that his wife has recovered from major surgery. Crosby is no stranger to big projects, having managed the demolition and reconstruction of the U.S. Olympic Training Facility in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the reconstruction of headquarters for the Third U.S. Army at Fort McPherson. Crosby holds a masters degree in personnel administration from Central Michigan University and a bachelors in aviation management from Auburn University.
