Three from Coweta make Eagle Scout

The Eagles have landed in Coweta County.

On a recent weekend, the Eagle Scout award was awarded to three deserving scouts, who gathered with their friends, families and fellow scouters in two separate ceremonies, similar in the enthusiasm and different in content.

Eagle candidate Daniel Long was presented his award at the St. George Catholic Church with Troop 242. The ceremony was solemn, with statistics given as how many Boy Scouts reach the rank of Eagle.

Long had been involved with the Boy Scouts for a while. He joined Troop 47 at the First Baptist Church under the direction of Scoutmaster Kevin Massingale.

When Long was participating with Troop 47, 12 boys began the program. There have been five Eagle awards presented before Long.

Over in Sharpsburg at the Liberty Hill AME Church, Troop 49 out of Senoia gathered for two more deserving scouts, Marcus Haverhals and Jarrett Jones. Virgil Brooks is the Scoutmaster and Glen Roberts is the

Assistant Scoutmaster. His troop has three more boys who plan on earning their Eagle rank in 2004. They will make a total of seven Eagle scouts from this troop in less than three years.

Earning the Eagle rank is a great accomplishment for one person and with the seven boys for one scout unit, one would think that the leadership and guidance is exemplary.

Jones is the son of Jacqulyn Bridges and grandson to Margaret Bridges.

Marcus Haverhals’ parents, Denise Haverhals from Senoia and his dad, Wim Haverhals of

LaJolla, California joined him during the ceremony. Haverhals has been an active scout as well, and plans on being a counselor at summer camp with Jarrett. He also attends ECHS as a sophomore and is 15.

Eagle Scouts are known for their service projects, months of planning,

meetings and the actual project. Jarrett designed and built a prayer garden at the Liberty Hill AME Church. Marcus built two outdoor sitting benches for the Senoia Senior Citizen Center.

Eagle Scout Marcus Haverhals is pinned by his mother, Denise as proud

father, Wim looks over his shoulder.

Jarrett Jones is pinned by his mother Jacqulyn Bridges, as grandmother,

Margaret Bridges looks over Jarrett's shoulder.
