Recyclables must be rinsed before placing on curb Fayetteville officials are asking residents to make sure they rinse out steel cans, aluminum cans, foil and pie pans along with #1 and #2 plastic containers placed outside for recycling pickup. The city also accepts newspapers, magazines, phone books, junk mail, office papers, school papers, brown paper grocery bags, cardboard boxes, cereal boxes and non-waxed paper containers for recycling. Residents should make sure any plastic coverings are removed from those items also. Recycling helps divert solid waste that would otherwise be placed in landfills. The citys recycling program is provided through the recently signed contract with Waste Management. City residents will pay $9.35 a month, a savings of $2.15. A special discount is offered to senior citizens, who will pay $7.95 a month for the garbage and recycling service.
