A. Ronald Cook, who has presided over numerous local hearings as the Chief Juvenile Court Judge in the Griffin Judicial Circuit, has submitted his resignation, effective at the end of June, according to court officials.

Cook is the circuit’s only full-time judge and plans to retire, court officials said. Fayette attorney Tarey Schell serves on a part-time basis as Associate Juvenile Court Judge. Both men hear cases in all four counties in the circuit: Fayette, Spalding, Pike and Upson.

The circuit is now taking applications for Cook’s position. Interested candidates are asked to submit a resume and letter by May 10 to Chief Superior Court Judge Paschal A. English.

State law requires applicants to be at least 30 years old, a Georgia citizen for at least three years and at least five years of practicing law, officials said. The new judge will assume office July 1 for a term of four years and then be eligible for reappointment.
