Meeting is set March 17 on Fayette credit classes

Clayton College & State University will host an information session on both academic and non-credit courses to be offered next year at the Fayette County Higher Education Center Wednesday, Mar. 17, at 6:30 p.m.

The Fayette County Higher Education Center is located on the ground floor of the Peachtree City Tennis Center, Planterrra Way off Georgia Hwy. 54 West in Peachtree City.

The Information Session is free and open to the public and will cover such academic basics as information on the admission process, financial aid, registration, testing, etc. Additionally, representatives from Clayton State's admissions, financial aid, testing center, and records offices will be on hand so that attendees can turn in applications and/or consult individually with university representatives after the general sessions.

The contact person in the Clayton State Office of Admissions (770-961-3500) for information about the Fayette Center is Anika Chambers, who can also be reached by e-mail from the Admissions website, adminservices.clayton.edu/admissions/fayette.htm.

Following approval by the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia in 2003, Clayton State has been offering credit classes for students on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Fayette Center. All courses are part of the core curriculum needed by all Clayton State baccalaureate students, with the exception of the learning support courses that prepare students to take MATH 1101.

Clayton State began offering classes in Fayette County in the 2003 fall semester with a small cohort of non-traditional students. As the program grows, it may expand to day classes in addition to the evening courses offered at present.

A committee has been created to find a suitable location somewhere in the county to establish a permanent satellite campus for the university.

Clayton State, through the Fayette County Center, has also been offering non-credit, Continuing Education and small business development classes since the Center opened on Oct. 1, 2002.

‘Laker Day’ for Class of ‘04 is March 13

Clayton State's spring "Laker Day," the University's Open House for high school seniors and their parents, is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Open House will begin at 9 a.m. with a general session, followed by breakout sessions for parents and students. After the breakouts, students and parents will be grouped and taken for a tour of the campus, ending in the Athletics and Fitness Center, where the popular Browse Fair will be held, starting at about 11:45 a.m. The Browse Fair features displays and representatives from a wide variety of campus departments and organizations, and gives students and parents a chance to talk one-on-one about Clayton State and its many programs, both academic and student life-oriented.

According to Carol Montgomery, Clayton State assistant director of Recruitment, a large number of responses have already been received, and it's expected that spring Laker Day will be very well-attended with approximately 200 participants.

For more information on the spring Laker Day, contact the Clayton State Office of Admissions at 770-961-3500.
