Fausett assumes CAP command

Ryan Fausett of Peachtree City has assumed the role of cadet commander of the Peachtree City-Falcon Field Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol.

The 18-year-old cadet commander received the squadron flag, in a traditional military ceremony, passed from former cadet commander Tim Morgan of Hogansville, through the hands of the squadron commander Lt. Col. Dave Shelby of Senoia. The change of command took place Jan. 29 in front of the assembled squadron on the grounds of Peachtree United Methodist Church on Robinson Road.

Fausett, a cadet lieutenant colonel, joined CAP in October 1997 at the age of 13. When asked why he joined CAP, he said, “I was looking for activities to get involved in outside of school, so I started looking around at local organizations on the Internet. CAP happened to be one of them. It looked very different from everything else, so I decided to try it out, and here I am.”

A senior at McIntosh High School, he plans to attend Valdosta State University, enroll in the AFROTC unit there, and major in political science. He hopes to be a USAF fighter pilot.

In addition to his Civil Air Patrol duties, Ryan says he enjoys music and plays the guitar. He is currently working toward his solo wings and hopes to have his pilot’s license by early fall.
