Leary announces for BOE Post 3

Connie Leary, a resident of Peachtree City, has announced her candidacy for the Post 3 seat of the Fayette County Board of Education, currently held by Marion Key.

Leary and her husband, Terry, have been married for 15 years and have two children, Brian and Kevin, in the Fayette County School System. Her involvement in Fayette school affairs began in 1998. Since that time, she has been a fixture at board meetings and has served on numerous task forces and committees on educational issues.

She is a member of the School Council at Huddleston Elementary and served as the PTO President there for two years.

Leary graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in Business Administration. She has worked professionally in human resources related to the legal field, serving as director of attorney recruitment at one of the largest law firms in the state before taking time off to raise her children.

“I feel our community could benefit from the perspective I’ve gained through having developed a strong working knowledge of the school system and positive working relationships with school system staff at all levels. I’d like the opportunity to do this job,” said Leary.

One of the biggest challenges facing the school system, she said, will continue to be meeting the needs for facilities that will be brought about by population growth in the county. Her service on the Facilities Action and Advisory Committees, the Construction Advisory Committee and the Architect Selection Committee has prepared her to address those issues, she said.

In addition, attendance at school leadership meetings as PTO President and service on the School Council has given her the opportunity to consider the viewpoints of administrator, teacher, businessperson, and parent in discussions of how to meet academic challenges, she said.
