Fairburn honors business for remodeling job

Recognition of their citizens’ accomplishments is something the Fairburn City Council and Mayor Betty Hannah believe in stressing. Each month a Community Improvement Award is given out to honor that person or persons who have gone the extra mile in making Fairburn a little nicer to live in.

Dan Cox of J.J. Flooring was February’s recipient for the excellent remodeling job they did on their building, the old Gaddy structure. “

The before and after is wonderful,” Mayor Hannah remarked.

Cox explained that his slow time was in the winter and he liked to keep his employees busy. Building pride in the company and the community is something he feels strongly about.

“I didn’t intend to get an award. I just like to fix old buildings.” Cox said.

Saving the city money is also important to the mayor. Fulton County Firefighter Captain Mike O’Hara installed a new intercom system which allows each crew member to communicate via a headset with a voice-activated microphone. The new system would have cost an estimated $700 to install professionally. Captain O’Hara took a look at it and said “I think I can install this thing.” The job was handled without taking the much-needed engine out of service.

In addition O’Hara has made numerous repairs to plumbing and electrical systems at Fairburn’s Fire Station. Fire Chief Walt Brown was glad to point out the great job that Captain O’Hara continues to do for the fire station and the city.
