Commissioner Fulton, 72, dead

Fulton County District 3 Commissioner Robert Fulton passed away Tuesday after suffering a heart attack. He was 72.

The funeral is today at 10 a.m. at Alpharetta First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to a charity of choice, or the Encore Park for the Arts, c/o Mike Nixon, 3070 Windward Plaza, Suite F-346, Alpharetta, Georgia 30005.

Until further notice, flags at Fulton County facilities will fly at half staff.

Commissioner Fulton, who joined the Board in January 1995 and was serving his third term, represented more than 162,000 residents in north Fulton County, including the cities of Alpharetta, Roswell and Mountain Park.

A graduate of Auburn University and the University of Illinois with a doctorate in civil engineering, Commissioner Fulton was a professor of mechanical engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology.

In addition to his service on the Board of Commissioners, he was a member of the Atlanta-Fulton Water Resources Commission and the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Board of Trustees.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend and colleague, and my thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jackie, and his entire family. From his commitment to parks and greenspace to the arts, Bob made lasting contributions to our community. I will miss him. We will all miss him,” said Commission Chairman Karen Handel.

“Commissioner Fulton was a hard worker, a committed public servant, and my friend. Our deepest condolences to Mrs. Fulton, the Fulton Family and friends,” said Commissioner Darnell.

His office will remain vacant until a special election is held in July.
