CEC students compete in Columbus Five Coweta County Skills USA members from Central Educational Center competed in region competition at Columbus Technical College recently. These CEC team members represented the best in their trade, technical, and industrial fields. Representing Coweta County were: Daniel Douglas, precision machining, first place. Maria Johnston, advertising design, first place. Pawel Kochanowski, carpentry, first place. Katie DeVane, graphic communications, second place. Ben Floyd, electrical wiring, third place. All winners were recognized with medals and prizes related to their fields. First- and second-place winners will advance to state competition in Atlanta April 22-24. Thirteen other state-only competitors will also be entered by CEC Skills USA. They are: Clarissa Teagle and Michael Tucker, community service. Taylor Pate and Paisley Maples, promotional bulletin board. Cierra Stegall, dental assisting. Neal Elliott, related technical math. Joey Stieper, computer maintenance technology. Josh Kladifko, electronics applications. Andy Contreres, internetworking. Matthew Robison and Phillip Oliver, television (video) production. David Phillips and Brian Martin, 3-D animation. Caleb Labiche, action skills. Cortney Head, health occupations professional portfolio. Skills USA is a national organization serving more than a quarter-million high school and college students and professional members who are enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled, and service organizations. Skills USA at CEC is very active in the community through mentoring at Ruth Hill Elementary School, working with Alliance for Children's Enrichment during the holidays, sponsoring the Can-A-Thon at CEC, raising money for the March of Dimes, and sponsoring after-school activities for children in the CEC area.
