Pep rally promotes academic success

Usually pep rallies are intended to get students fired up about an upcoming ball game, but this time Flat Rock Middle used the popular energized assembly to fuel enthusiasm for learning.

The school held its first academic pep rally Feb. 6, where students were recognized for their academic achievements in the classroom. Flat Rock’s cheerleaders and step team performed routines centered on academic success. Class teams also gave special performances about making the grade.

“This assembly is to honor you and the hard work you have shown in the classroom,” Principal Oatha Mann told the student body.

All students and faculty took part in reciting the school’s mission statement from memory: “We will make a difference through character building, high standards, individual learning styles, lifelong learning, and diversity, one child at a time.”

Various academic clubs and competitive teams were recognized as well as those students who made the semester’s high honor roll. Each high honor roll student received a coupon good for one free Chick-fil-A sandwich.
