Wachovia looks at Summit Point

Yet another company is making plans to locate at the Summit Point shopping center that was part of Fayetteville’s Southside master plan process.

Wachovia Bank wants to build a branch as one of the eight outparcels along Ga. Highway 85 south.

The 1.64-acre site will have a shared driveway with the GTO’s Drive-In restaurant on one side and an entry drive into the shopping center on its other side. The proposed building is 4,025 sq. ft. and will be on property zoned C-3.

The drive through will have five lanes including one with an ATM and night deposit.

The plan will be considered by the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission at its regular meeting Tuesday, Feb. 24.

Other items the commission may vote on include:

• A revised elevation for the planned SunTrust Bank at Fayette Pavilion. Commissioners were cold about the latest design for the bank, and several noted they preferred the design the commission originally approved for the site.

• A new development on Ga. Highway 85 South on a vacant lot next to Enterprise Car Rental. The Midtown Plaza would be a small cluster of stores on a .62-acre site. The sticking point could be the use of underground stormwater detention, which has led to some concern from the city engineer.

• A preliminary plat for the Heaton Lakes subdivision, located off Ga. Highway 92 on White Road. The 15.77-acre site would be developed as a PUD to provide more open space, which includes two significantly sized lakes that would be the feature at the entrance to the subdivision. Developer Bob Rolader said he understood the city’s concerns about making sure the stormwater detention was appropriate for the property given other flooding concerns in nearby subdivisions. He indicated the subdivision would “over-attain for drainage issues.”
