Two officers hurt after jail scuffle with inmate

A suspect awaiting trial on drug charges fought with officers at the maximum security unit of the Fayette County Jail last week as they tried to search his cell.

Two of the officers were injured, but jail staffers were able to get Cedric Demond Pittmon back under control, according to court documents.

Pittmon, 30, of Forest Park, became boisterous when officers after they said he would be placed in handcuffs, deputies said. During the struggle, Pittmon got ahold of the handcuffs and tried to use them as he threw punches, police said.

During the melee, Pittmon struck one of the detention officers repeatedly in the abdomen with his elbow, deputies said.

Pittmon is charged with felony counts of obstruction of a law enforcement officer and unauthorized possession of a weapon by an inmate. He also faces two misdemeanor counts of simple battery and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
