County GOP convenes for precinct meetings

Republicans met Saturday for the Fayette County precinct mass meeting, the first step in electing delegates and alternate delegates to the Republican National Convention this fall in New York City. There are multiple conventions prior to the final convention, each one elects delegates and alternates for the following convention.

Locally, the next step will be the Fayette County Republican Party Convention, scheduled for Saturday, March 6, at Starr’s Mill High School.

The conventions also give delegates and alternates a chance to talk one-on-one to those seeking Republican elected offices. Candidates for all seats make it a point to attend the meetings and are typically given ample time to address crowds. Other Party business is also conducted, and it is a fun time for those who are involved and an opportunity for friends to reconnect.

It is not necessary for delegates to be members of the local or national party. Visitors are welcome and may find the experience educational. For more information contact Lane Watts, chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party, at 770-716-1545 or chairman@fayettecountygop.org.
