Grammy winner
brings award back to Fayette
By J. FRANK LYNCH At least a share of the top prize handed out Sunday night at the Grammy Awards will be making its way home to Fayette County this week. Hip-hops Outkast was awarded Album of the Year by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Antwan Big Boi Patton, one-half of the duo, resides in north Fayette where numerous African-American entertainers have moved in recent years. His partner, Andrew 3000 Benjamin, lives in Stone Mountain. Both are graduates of East Points Tri-Cities High School. Meanwhile, former Fayette resident and So-So Def Records founder Jermaine Dupri has resigned his position as president of the Atlanta chapter of NARAS to protest the unfair treatment he said was shown toward Janet Jackson after her revealing Super Bowl half-time appearance. Dupri and Jackson are reportedly dating. In 2001, Dupri turned himself in to Fayette County authorities after being sentenced by Superior Court Judge Chris Edwards to a three-day sentence in the county jail for missing jury duty in 1999.Dupri has since reportedly moved to north Fulton county.
