Obituaries

Aubrey N. Ranson

Aubrey N. Ransom, 76, Fayetteville, died Jan. 18, 2004. He served in the United States Army in World War II, before being wounded in Germany. He was employed by Greyhound Lines for 44 years, beginning his career with Atlanta Greyhound in Charleston, W. Va., at age 16. He held numerous management positions before retiring as Director of Traffic for Western Greyhound in San Francisco. Graveside services were at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston, W. Va., with the Rev. George Bramble officiating. Interment was at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, South Charleston. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Josephine Ransom, Fayetteville; sons, Roy, Adel, Iowa, and Rick, Fayetteville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Audrey Mullins, Charleston. Nathan Holsey Salter

Nathan Holsey Salter, 77, Fayetteville, died Jan. 22, 2004. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Howell Salter, of Valdosta. He was a veteran of the United States Navy in World War II and a veteran of the United States Army in the Korean conflict. He was graduated in 1950 from Georgia Tech with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for many years as a manufacturing manager in the automotive industry. He was a member of the Peachtree Christian Church, Atlanta, and had a lifelong passion for music and golf. Memorial services were at the Peachtree Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Norland Salter, Fayetteville; their children, Erik Salter, Atlanta, Sara Salter, Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Jennifer and Mike Bowers, Woodstock; a son, James and Angela Salter, Pendergrass, Ga.; and grandchildren, Jimmy Salter and Luke Salter, Pendergrass, Ga. Metro Crematory, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Thomas Charles Hannon

Thomas Charles Hannon, 61, died Jan. 24, 2004 in Milton Keynes ICU, England. He was born Oct. 9, 1942 in Racine, Wisc. He was chairman and founder of Hanco ATM Systems, the largest supplier of cash machines in the United Kingdom. He pioneered the concept of merchant-fill ATM's and sold his United States portfolio in 2002. Services were at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Linda Hannon; children; T. J., Todd, Tim, Tory, Travis, Tara, and Tiffany; grandchildren, Taylor, Abby, Keaton, Brandon, Sam, Chandler, Sydney, Kinsley, and Charltyn; and brother, James. Helen Brown

Helen Brown, 78, Fayetteville, died Jan. 24, 2004. She was born March 19, 1925 in Washington, D. C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Lee Brown. Services were at the Harps Crossing Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Watson officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. Survivors include sons, Billy and Kitty Brown, Fayetteville, Mike and Terri Brown, Sharpsburg, and Leonard and Betty Brown, Huntingtown, Md.; a daughter, Laura and Gary Stewart, Fayetteville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Lanham, Lebdon, Mo.; and a sister, Juanita Hardesty, Md. Donald Benjamin Overman

Donald Benjamin "Ben" Overman, 19, Fayetteville, died Jan. 24, 2004. He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Aline "Babe" Jenkins. He was graduated from Woodward Academy in 2002 where he was a member of the Honor Guard and the Lacrosse team. He was an Eagle Scout and attended the Philmont and Seabase Scouts camps. He was attending Auburn University on a Navy ROTC scholarship and was a member of the university's sailing ream. He had a student pilot's license and a Class A skydiving license with over 300 jumps. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Gary Parrish officiating. Interment was at the Blakely Cemetery, Blakely, Ga. Survivors include parents, Jack and Natalie Jenkins Overman, Fayetteville; a brother, Jonathan Thomas Overman; grandfather, Benjamin Hill Jenkins, Cumberland Island, Ga.; and grandparents, Donald Thomas and Lena Grantham Overman, Stantonsburg, N.C. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Gertrude Lacritz Atkins

Gertrude Lacritz Atkins, 77, Jonesboro, died Jan. 25, 2004. She was born April 26, 1926, and as a longtime resident of Peabody, Mass. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Atkins. Graveside services were at the Camp Memorial Cemetery, Fayetteville. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Reid, Fayette County; grandchildren, Eileen and Tony Corley, Newnan, and Matt and Torey Wucher, Fayette County; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Logan, and Brooklyn; and sisters, Natalie Brustin, Peabody, Mass., and Estelle Diamond, Ft. Doreen Fullerton Puckett

Doreen Fullerton Puckett, 75, died Jan. 26, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert F. Puckett, who was president and CEO of Christian City for over 30 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Alvey and Mabel Williams Fullerton, and a brother, Rhuel Fullerton. She was a member of Tyrone Christian Church. Before assisting her husband at Christian City, she worked at the Fulton County Voter Registration office. She was a gifted writer and creative with Children Ministries. Services were at the Welcome Center Chapel, Christian City with Minister Billy Rowe and a friend, Ruth Groover, officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn, College Park. James Wilson Dumas

James Wilson Dumas, 90, Brooks, died Jan. 27, 2004. He was born Sept. 15, 1913 in Fayette County, son of Charles Robert and Dora Cox Dumas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Harp Dumas, and a grandson, Scott Clarke. Services were at the Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Harp Jr., and the Rev. Thurman Slusser officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery with services conducted by the Riverdale Masonic Lodge #709, F&AM. Survivors include daughters, Linda and Jim Clarke, St. Cloud, Fla., and Joan and Bill Hughey, Brooks; grandchildren, Casey Corbett, St. Cloud, Fla., and Clint Hughey, Brooks; great-grandchildren, Haley Corbett and Trenton Corbett, both of St. Cloud, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, Don Harp Sr., Fayetteville. Lottie Tobacco

Lottie Tobacco, 82, Peachtree City, formerly of the New York and New Jersey area, died Jan. 27, 2004. She was born April 15, 1921 in Germany. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sebastian Tobacco, who was a retired United States air captain. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran church. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Daniel Schepmann officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include a son, Steven and Kathryn Tobacco, Fayetteville; a daughter, Ruth and David Broderson, New York City; granddaughters, Linda and Stephanie Tobacco; and a brother, Vernon and Margaret Ryden, Isle of Man, England. John Theodore Jascomb

John Theodore Jascomb, 78, Fayetteville, died Jan. 27, 2004. He was born Oct. 4, 1925 in Sayre, Penn. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Tom Zorworski officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Annie Treadwell Jascomb, Fayetteville; a son, Ricky and Anna Jascomb, Summerville, S. C.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Jascomb, Acworth; and sisters, Betty Litini, Sayre, Penn., and Madelyn Polinski, Syracuse, N. Y. Carl J. David Roan Brown

David Roan Brown, 77, Fayetteville, died Jan. 28, 2004. He was born June 9, 1926 in Fayette County, the son of Walter L. and Mary Roan Brown. He was a veteran of the United States Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He was retired from the United States Postal Service with 35 years of service. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dennis Watson and Chaplain Tommy Roan officiating. Survivors include his wife, Betty Cagle Brown, Fayetteville; a daughter, Judy and Mike Cheely, Fayetteville; grandsons, Gary and Autumn Cheely, and Greg Cheely; a granddaughter, Tricia Alley, Senoia; a great-grandson, Caison Alley, Senoia; and a brother, Ben and Dorothy Brown, Marietta. Steve B. Ellis

Steve B. Ellis, 77, Peachtree City, died Jan. 29, 2004. He was born Sept. 7, 1926 in Shelby, N. C. He was retired as a captain at Piedmont air Lines with 31 years of service. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Sharpsburg. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Brian Anderson officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Ann and Gregory Cmar, Marblehead, Maine; and grandchildren, Stephanie Cmar, Colton, Cmar, and Wyatt Cmar.

Ligia Baena

Ligia Baena, 66, Fayetteville, died Jan. 30, 2004. She was born July 15, 1937 in Columbia, South America. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Father Jimmy Adams and the Rev. Augenio Gasparico officiating. Survivors include children, Alvaro and Matilde Baena, Houston. Texas, Ricardo and Donna Baena, Fayetteville; Consuelo and Ralph Rose, Lufkin, Texas; Grandchildren, Monica, Javier, Ashley, Andrea, Jennifer, Kristian, Evelyn, Bryan, Caroline, Clarke, Nikki, Cynthia, Jacob, and Christopher; stepfather, Pablo Vargas, New York; and a sister, Alcira Quiroz, New York. Marie Antoinette Zellner

Marie Antoinette Zellner, 87, Riverdale, died Jan. 30, 2004. She was born Dec. 6, 1916 in Jackson, Miss. She was preceded in death by her husband, George O. Zellner Sr., and a son, George O. Zellner Jr. Graveside services were at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Survivors include a son, Jerry and Nancy Zellner; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Zellner, Charleston, S. C.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Carl J.
