Parade honors famous Americans Second graders at Hood Avenue Primary have been studying biographies of famous Americans. To celebrate the closing of the unit, students had a biography parade for the school, parents and community. The students thoroughly enjoyed creating sandwich signs to demonstrate their knowledge of over a hundred famous Americans who have touched our lives and impacted American lifestyle in a positive way, said second-grade teacher Tara Severin. Famous Americans on display in the parade ranged from former President John F. Kennedy, civil rights leaders Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr., and Ray Kroc (founder of McDonalds) to singer Elvis Presley. Through this project the students were inspired and acquired a greater sense of appreciation for those who have made changes, opened doors, and motivated people to make the nation a better place. We are so very proud of our little Americans and their hard work and look forward to reading biographies about their great accomplishments some day, said Severin.
