Paws and Claws Ball set for Feb. 28

The Junior League’s annual charity ball and auction this year benefits The Newnan Coweta Humane Society Shelter Rescue.

A team of excited League members is working every week planning and meeting for every detail from centerpieces to table linens to the best ever auction items.

On Christmas Eve, one mother yellow Labrador mix was given a second chance while she was having a litter of 10 puppies. The reason is because of Shelter Rescue and Dale Bowers, foster mother of this abandoned family.

“These puppies symbolize what Shelter Rescue does. Shelter Rescue has volunteers who go to the pound every week and pull the animals they think are adoptable,” said Dale Bowers. “They were making their rounds just before Christmas, doing their last walk-through for the holidays at one of the local pounds, when they came up on a dog having puppies right there in front of them. They knew if they didn’t pull her and the puppies right then, they may not have made it through the holidays.”

At The Paws and Claws Ball everyone will get to meet the Christmas puppies and see where the funds raised at this event will be going to serve even more animals like these precious little puppies.

The Junior Service League’s support through the Paws and Claws Ball will allow Shelter Rescue to purchase a mobile adoption unit that will enable them to travel around the county to adopt out pets rather than holding adoptions in only one location as they do now, according to Bowers.

“It also will allow them to take the spay-neuter program into other communities — like having a shelter on wheels,” she said.

Their has been a location change to the former Playtex building on Temple Avenue. The event is scheduled for Feb. 28. For more information call Tina Neely at 770-304-0669 or Christy Stoffle at 770-683-6607.

To donate corporate gifts for the auction contact Tina or Christy. Any item your business can contribute will help aid in adoption for homeless pets in our community and beyond. Corporate tables are available with an opportunity to advertise your business as an important supporter of needed community efforts such as the Shelter Rescue program.

Your logo will be placed on event T-shirts, VIP seating as well as other promotion during the evening. Exciting auction items so far that have been donated are vacations to the mountains and the beach, gift certificates for local businesses such as spas and restaurants, pet goodies and much, much more! There will be a silent and live portion to the auction Feb. 28.

The former Playtex building has wall-to-wall hardwood floors, open ceilings, plenty of outlets and tons of space. These old warehouse wood floors will turn into a magical space with a decorating team of Junior League ladies hanging lights from the ceiling, special pet murals by the local school art departments, heart-warming pet photo posters and greenery will be an elegant backdrop for this special evening.

“There is enough space in that one room to have 500 people, the auction, the food, and the band all in the same fabulous room,” said Neely, co-chair of the ball. “It’s going to be great!”

Tickets to the ball are being sold at Scott’s Bookstore, Paper Appointments, Coweta Animal Hospital, Newnan Coweta Welcome Center and Locos.
