It’s still a waiting game on TDK Blvd.

Residents hoping to use the Coweta-Fayette Connector anytime soon will still be waiting.

Fayette County public works director Lee Hearn said this week the county is still waiting to receive the last rights of way for the project.

“There’s still rights-of-way outstanding from Planterra Ridge, the Airport Authority and Pathway,” Hearn said.

Once the rights-of-way are obtained, Hearn said the county still has to sign contracts from the DOT. While construction can start after the right of ways are obtained, Heran does not know how long the process will take.

Last fall, Fayette County Commission Chairman Greg Dunn jubilantly announced the project had received just over $1 million in state funds from the Department of Transportation.

Nearly $600,000 of the funds will go towards the bridge spanning Line Creek, while the rest will help defray material costs.

The total cost of the connector is right at $4 million, with Coweta County contributing about $1.79 million, Hearn said. With the DOT ponying up more than $1 million, Hearn said Fayette’s portion of the road will be a little over $1 million.

The connector offers residents easy another entry point to Fayette and Coweta counties, and has been on the county’s transportation priority list for many years.

Once everything is signed, Heran said the construction phase of the project will last about 18 months.
