Deli Delicious lives up to its name

As it states on the menu board, “deli is in delicious,” and this eatery lives up to its name. Deli Delicious, in the Braelinn Shopping Center on Crosstown Road in Peachtree City, offers a variety of appetizing, homestyle items to please anyone’s taste.

Whether you are in the mood for a cold sandwich or a plate of homemade lasagna, the deli will have something for you. The portions are large and the prices are low, making this a good deal all around. In fact, owner Lorraine Stasko said her customers’ biggest complaint is “there is too much food to eat.”

If you are in the mood for a cold sandwich, there are 12 types to choose from, with prices ranging from $3.50 to just over $5. Customers get to choose their type of bread, cheese and toppings, and all meats are Boar’s Head brand.

The bread is also fresh daily, and comes from City Cafe in Fayetteville. “I swing by there every morning on my way into work to pick up the day’s bread,” Lorraine said.

If it is a hot sandwich you are looking for, try the meatball sandwich, topped with grilled peppers, onions and melted cheese. It is so large, the use of a knife and fork is highly recommended.

Along with these traditional deli items, Deli Delicious also offers salad plates, including homemade tuna and chicken salad, and a different homemade soup every day. If it is early, drop by for breakfast, where you will find an assortment of biscuits, breakfast sandwiches and pastries.

But just because this restaurant is called a deli, don’t be fooled into thinking all they serve is soup, salad and sandwiches. In fact, their most popular fare includes the daily pasta dishes (drop by on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the lasagna) and Blue Plate Specials.

The Blue Plate Special, which changes everyday, is a bargain by any definition. For $5.95, you will get the daily entree, choice of two vegetables, cornbread or a biscuit, and a drink. With entree ranging from meatloaf and mashed potatoes to barbecue pork, it is easy to see why this is a crowd favorite.

“We sell more hot meals than anything else,” Lorraine said. “I don’t think I would be in business if all I sold was sandwiches, that’s how popular the Blue Plates are.”

In addition to offering its customers wonderful dishes in the restaurant, the deli also offers catering services, and currently holds the contract to provide the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater with all its food and beverages.

Deli Delicious is an independent family owned restaurant started in June 2001, and business has been growing ever since the doors opened. “We have people who have come in here every day since we opened,” Lorraine said.

Lorraine and her husband Andy had worked in a similar restaurant while in high school and college, and had always dreamed of opening an “authentic” sandwich shop of their own.

“We always thought it would be good to establish a place that served fresh, homemade, quality food at a reasonable price and in a pleasant environment, like you would in your own home,” Lorraine said. “We try not to raise our prices, but to keep up our quality and large quantities. I would go out of business before I would jeopardize the best food I can serve the public.”
