Blood drive, health fair Monday

Southern Regional Health System's Cultural Diversity Advisory
Committee, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, is conducting

a health fair and blood drive Monday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army Headquarters in Jonesboro, at 130 Spring Street.

“This is a perfect opportunity for all of those who made New Year’s resolutions to stay healthy to increase their knowledge, and take active steps toward improving their health,” said Milrinette Nelson, BSN, RN, blood drive coordinator for SRHS. “And at the same time, they are able to give back to the community by donating blood."

This is the hospital’s fifth blood drive in the past nine months. According to the American Red Cross, one person needs blood every two seconds in the United States. That adds up to about four million people each year.

“We are urging everyone who is able to please come out and donate blood,” said Nelson.

In addition to the drive, the health fair will offer blood glucose screenings, cholesterol screenings, blood pressure screenings, cancer awareness and prevention, stroke awareness and prevention tips, information on chronic diseases.
