Third try for Zaxby’s might be OK for F’ville planners

Plans for a Zaxby’s restaurant near Fayette Pavilion on Ga. Highway 85 north may get a green light later this month.

The plans were changed by shrinking the restaurant’s size and eliminating pervious parking spaces, which were previously proposed for the city. The pervious spaces, which allow water to seep into the ground, were frowned upon by the city’s planning and zoning commission.

At their meeting Tuesday night, commissioners said they appreciated the developer’s flexibility. Early on, the plans were changed to create room for two-way traffic in front of the restaurant to create an access road that links to the J&R Clothing plaza next door.

Plans for a second Wendy’s restaurant on Ga. Highway 85 South, however, still have quite a bit of work to be done before the commission’s Jan. 27 meeting. The restaurant would be located across from the north entrance to the Kroger shopping center across the highway.

Commissioners expressed concern about the design elements that are “corporate” in nature which essentially function as signs.
