Streetcars being considered in Atlanta Fulton County District 2, At-Large Commissioner Robb Pitts sponsored legislation at the December 17 Board meeting that resulted in a $50,000 grant to Atlanta Streetcar, Inc. (ASC). ASC was established in 2003 to conduct feasibility studies and fundraising efforts for a proposed eight-mile electric streetcar, running along Peachtree Street between downtown Atlanta and Buckhead. The streetcars would provide transportation to tourists and conventioneers, as well as workers and residents traveling short distances. Mike Robison, chairman of ASC, said, Commissioner Pitts leadership has secured an incredible public investment for Atlanta Streetcar. The grant will help defray the cost of the feasibility study. The commissioners assistance is greatly appreciated as we begin to explore the restoration of a streetcar along Peachtree Street. Robison added, We are grateful to have the Commissioners participation on the Board of Advisors, and look forward to a successful partnership with him and Fulton County.
