State seeks feedback on draft standards The first draft of the new Georgia Performance Standards are now posted on the Georgia Department of Education web site. Parents, teachers and students are encouraged to read the materials and offer feedback to the Georgia Department of Education. The new Georgia Performance Standards, formerly known as the Quality Core Curriculum (QCC) draft documents can be found online at http://www.glc.k12.ga.us/spotlight/gps1.htm. The site also contains an introductory video describing why and how the curriculum was revamped. Visitors also will be able to access streaming webcast presentations describing changes to the English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies content areas. Comments on the curriculum can be sent to the Georgia Department of Education through the online feedback forms available on the site. Public comment will be accepted for 90 days, beginning January 12, 2004. Official rollout for the new Georgia Performance Standards, which will consist of professional development, mapping of textbooks, and the development of parent guides, is planned for Summer 2004. Implementation of the new curriculum is scheduled to begin in Fall 2004.
