The message on the sign at Big Jim’s Wing Shack in Senoia sums of the feelings of the small town this week: “Pray for the Hogans.”

The east Coweta town was saddened this weekend when public works director Bobby Hogan, 43, died of an aneurysm.

City administrator Murray McAffee said Hogan had come to work Saturday to work on a water line and started complaining about a bad headache.

He went to Newnan Hospital, but was quickly transported to Atlanta after the brain aneurysm was discovered.

Hogan died later in the weekend, and the grief was palpable around the city all week.

“He was a one of a kind employee. I just don’t know what we’re going to do without him,” said McAfee.

Hogan’s wife, Debby, is the city’s clerk, and McAffee said she was dealing with the loss “as best she could.”

Hogan could always be seen around town working on different projects, whether it was stringing the city’s Christmas lights, or helping coordinate the placement of the city’s new sewer lines.

He also had completed classes to be the town’s arborist and worked with the city’s tree committee to make sure Senoia preserved some of its older trees.

In addition to his work at City Hall, Hogan was a large figure in the city’s Little League program and worked with hundreds of kids in that capacity.

“Bobby was an excellent worker, and the whole community is going to miss him,” said Mayor Robert Hannah.

Services are today at First Baptist Church in Senoia at 2 p.m. with burial following at Senoia City Cemetery.
