More commercial may be headed for east Coweta

Early next month, residents on the east side of the county will have their chance to say whether they want more commercial development in their neighborhood.

Last week, the Coweta County Commission voted to hold a public hearing Feb. 12 for a rezoning on a 6.7-acre tract on Ga. Highway 34, west of Andrew Bailey Road.

Tango Whiskey LLC is asking the commission to rezone the site from C-6-Commercial Minor Shopping District to C-8-Heavy Commercial District.

If the property is rezoned, the developer plans to build a sporting goods store, health club, tire service center, lube service center and auto parts store.

The tract is part of a 29-acre tract that was previously zoned C-6. The parcel started out as 32-acre site, but was reduced in size because of the widening of the state highway.

The planning department is recommending approval of the request because it remains consistent with the Future Land Use Map and would not have an adverse effect on public facilities.

The public hearing on the project starts at 6 p.m. at the county’s administrative complex at 22 East Broad Street in Newnan.
