When the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority’s express buses start rolling next year, residents will be able to get to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport during the morning and rush hours.

The transportation superagency unveiled preliminary bus routes this week to the Coweta County Commission. Route 450 would run from Newnan to the airport and have two stops: one on Bullsboro Drive and one near exit 51 on Interstate 85.

From the Bullsboro location, it would take 45 minutes to arrive at the MARTA station at the airport, while the interstate stop would take 29 minutes.

In the morning, the buses would leave Bullsboro at 5:30 a.m., 6:15 a.m., 6:45 a.m., 7:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.

In the evening, the buses would depart the airport MARTA station every 45 minutes from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Last year, the County Commission decided to allow GRTA to operate the buses in exchange for more than $10 million in transportation improvements at various intersections and an upgrade of Lower Fayetteville Road. The county also pledged $850,000 towards the cost of operating the bus system.

On Tuesday, county administrator Theron Gay brought back more contracts from GRTA that needed the county’s approval. While the commission signed off on the documents, they made it clear where they stood, since they haven’t received any money from GRTA.

“You tell them, no pay, no play,” said Chairman Vernon “Mutt” Hunter.
