Marguerite Spencer Allen

Marguerite Spencer Allen, 77, Fayetteville, formerly of College Park, Ga., died Dec. 24, 2003. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Donnell and Marian Ferarro Corrado Spencer. She was graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B. S. in Education and where she was also a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She enjoyed outdoor activities. She moved to Georgia in the early 1960's when she married. She was retired from Woodward Academy where she worked for many years as secretary to the principal at The Busey School and also worked as a secretary at the main campus. A graveside memorial service was at Westminster Memorial Gardens. Survivors include a son, Don and Susanne Allen, Fayetteville; a daughter, Judy and Troy Besseche, Fayetteville; and grandchildren, James Allen, Elisabeth Allen, Harrison Allen, Wilson Allen, and Lee Allen, all of Fayetteville. Raymond E. Dryden

Raymond E. Dryden, 79, Peachtree City, died Dec. 27, 2003. He was born April 17, 1924 in Turner County, Ga. He was a member of the Peachtree City Kiwanis Club, a member of the Lovejoy Masonic Lodge #443, and a member of the Abba Shrine, Mobile, Ala. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. Steve Bingham officiating. Interment was at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Aubra Dryden, Peachtree City; children, Charlotte and Bill Harkey, Sharpsburg, and Nancy L. Dryden, Smyrna, Ga.; grandchildren, Kristy Harkey and Dayna Harkey, both of Sharpsburg; and half brothers, Bill Dryden, Duluth, Ga., and Jim Dryden, Peachtree City. Carl J. Matha Jean Toombs

Martha Jean Toombs, 64, Fayetteville, died Dec. 27, 2003. She was born Sept. 28,1939 in Marshall County, Miss. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret McClure, a brother, W. A. McClure Jr., and sisters, Mildred Eugenia Price and Margaret Geraldine McClure. Services were at the Kenwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Lynn McClain and the Rev. Darrell Hayes officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Gus William Toombs Jr.; sons, Mike Toombs, Madison, N.C., and Charles Toombs, Fayetteville; a daughter, Peggy and Dr. Doug Lundy, Ft. Collins, Co.; grandchildren, Zack Lundy, Ryan Lundy, Blair Toombs and Blake Toombs; brothers, Howard McClure, James McClure, Robert McClure, Billy McClure, and Roy McClure, all of Mt. Pleasant, Miss, and Ralph McClure, Victoria, Miss.; a sister, Sue McClure Griffin, New Albany, Miss.; and a daughter-in-law, Lori Cosper, Griffin. Carl J. Feliz H. Holt

Felix H. Holt, 80, Dunedin, Fla., died Dec. 28, 2003. He was born in Arbyrd, Mo. and moved to Florida in 1989. He served in the United States Army in World War II and received the Bronze Star. He was retired from 35 years in sales for Goodyear. A graveside service was at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Martha Holt; one son; two daughters; one brother; two sisters; eight grandchildren, one of whom, Meredith Anne Townsend, lives in Fayetteville; and two great-grandchildren. Moss-Feaster Funeral Home, Dunedin, Fla. was in charge.

Thomas L. Washburn III

Thomas L. Washburn III, 64, Jacksonville, Fla., died Dec. 28, 2003. He was born Dec. 16, 1939 in Jefferson County, Ala. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas L. Washburn Jr. He was graduated from Russell High School in 1957, the John Marshall Law School, Atlanta, and worked in real estate. He opened his own law firm. Graveside services were at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. Survivors include his wife, Susan G. "Sue" Washburn, Jacksonville, Fla.; sons B. Scott and Sandy Washburn, Indialantic, Fla., and Thomas K. "Tom" and Shanon Washburn, Alpharetta; a daughter, Kristi and Steve Rapson, Peachtree City; mother, Sally O. Washburn, Woodstock; a sister, Sally W. Hamby, Woodstock; grandchildren, Andrew Rapson, and Sara Beth Rapson, Peachtree City, Shelley Washburn, Brent Washburn, and Shane Washburn, all of Indialantic, Fla.; aunts, Colleen Childress, Sharpsburg, and Mary Louise McConnell, Mobile, Ala.; a great-uncle, the Rev. Ralph T. Kyle, Marietta; stepsons, Jonathan H. Newsom, and Samuel G. Newsom, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; a step-granddaughter, Stephanie R. Douglas, Prospect, Ky.; and nieces, Deborah L. Janie Mae Thomas

Janie Mae Thomas, 84, Fayetteville, died Dec. 28, 2003. She was born July 20, 1919 in Fayette County, the daughter of Barney Carl and Lucille Davis Lee. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Bill Priester officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include her husband, Roy Hugh Thomas, Fayetteville; a daughter, Charlene Hooper, Peachtree City; granddaughters, Janis Hooper, Peachtree City, and Donna Hooper, Duluth; a great-grandchild, Jackson Thomas Hooper, Duluth; and a sister, Emogene Miller, Duluth;

Melvin E. Hyde Sr.

Melvin E. "Buddy" Hyde Sr., 72, Fayetteville, died Dec. 29, 2003. He was born April 3, 1931 in Fulton County. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the Park Street United Methodist Church, Atlanta, and Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. B. David Rowe, and the Rev. Dr. David Chancey officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park, Ga. Survivors include his wife, Pat Hyde, Fayetteville; a son, Mel and Melody Hyde Jr., Columbus; daughters, Sheryl Hyde Cobb, Douglasville, and Jody and David Rowe, LaGrange; a bother, Jimmy S. Hyde, Ellenwood; sisters, Betty Grainger, Forest Park, and Fay Eidson, Jackson; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

Mary Evelyn Collins

Mary Evelyn Collins, 86, Fayetteville, died Dec. 29, 2003. She was born Nov. 24, 1918 in Meriwether County, Ga. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jan Jones Larry. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Ron Whitlock officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Survivors include her husband, Lyman Jack Collins, Fayetteville; grandsons, Bradford Jones, Atlanta, and Chris Larry, Fayetteville; a son-in-law, Louie Larry, Fayetteville; and brothers, Watson Stallworth, and Owen Stallworth. Larry Harold Muller

Larry Harold Muller, 65, Fayetteville, died Dec. 30, 2003. He was born May 6, 1938 in Montgomery County, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Charlotte Muller. He was retired from NCR after 34 years of service, and was deacon emeritus of the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville with the Rev. Frank Ellis and the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife, Jenny Lee Courtney Muller, Fayetteville; daughters, Michelle and Tim Anders, and Traci and Chris Rylands; granddaughters, Hannah Anders, and Katie Anders; a sister, Suzanne Muller; and a stepmother, Wanda Muller, Beavercreek, Ohio. Nancy Louise Sweet

Nancy Louise Sweet, 76, Peachtree City, died Jan. 1, 2004. She was born April 22, 1927 in Springfield, Mass. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Sweet. She was graduated from the High School of Commerce, Springfield, Mass. She was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church, Tyrone, Ga. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Mark Riley officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include her children, David Edward and Tammy Sweet, Peachtree City, Norman and Margo Sweet, Ware, Mass., and Marilyn Sweet, Boulder, Colo.; and grandchildren, Erica L. Sweet, and D. David Madison Davis

David Madison Davis, 56, Fayetteville, died Jan. 1, 2004. He was born April 27, 1947 in Fulton County, Ga. He had served in the United States Army for 3 years as part of the Military Police. He was owner and operator of Davis Country Store from 1996 to 2003, a pillar of the Inman Community. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Doug Burrell officiating. Survivors include his wife, Martha Florence Van Huss Davis, Fayetteville; a daughter, Lillian K. O'Neal; parents, William "Bill" and Dorothy Davis, Barnesville; brothers, Keith Davis, and Phillip Davis, both of Florida; and sisters, Kay Reonas, and Tracie Davis, both of Florida. Carl J. Glenda Florence Batten

Glenda Florence Batten, 57, Jonesboro, died Jan. 2, 2004. She was born July 14, 1946 in Abbeville, Ga. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. Lester Cooper officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Walker Batten, Jonesboro; daughters, Michelle McMonigle, Fayetteville, Kimberly Conoly, McDonough, and Danielle Batten, Jonesboro; seven grandchildren; brothers, Terry Matthews, Brooks, and Ricky Matthews, Fayetteville; and sisters, Jean Darden, Fayetteville, and Gail Malcolm, Newnan. Malya Mae Stone

Malya Mae Stone, 91, Fayetteville, died Jan. 2, 2004. She was born May 7, 1912 in Clarke County, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Clement Stone. She was a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Ellison officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include nephews, Hinton and Vivian Stone Jr., Fayetteville, and Neal and Linda Marable, Athens; nieces, Gloria Shelnutt, and Betty and Mike Morrison, all of Athens; a great-nephew, Bill and Lisa Stone, McDonough; and great-nieces, Debbie and Jeff Kilgore, Fayetteville, Pam and Robert Keown, Valdosta, and Terry Shelnutt.
