County names ‘2003 Employer of Year’

Nine businesses honored for exceptional performance in helping workforce

Dollar General, MARTA and Verizon Wireless are among nine corporate and public agencies named 2003 Employers of the Year by Fulton County Government for helping residents find jobs.

They received awards atFulton County’s 7th Annual Recognition and Appreciation Luncheon hosted recently by the Department of Human Services, Office of Workforce Development to celebrate successes of its job preparation and search efforts for residents. Eleven firms and organizations such as Home Depot and the City of College Park received Special Recognition awards for supporting OWD’s efforts.

During 2003, the OWD program worked with 400 employers to help 424 persons find permanent jobs with benefits, and counseled or secured training for 11,000 residents. 

Other Employers of the Year are All-N-1 Security Services, Inc.; Cognisa; Fulton County General Services Department; The Ginin Group; HMS Host; and Planner for Environmental Quality.

Also receiving special recognition were Agbara, Inc.; Atlanta Enterprise Center; C.E. Berry Janitorial Services; the City of College Park; Computer Skills Training Program; Georgia World Congress Center; Home Depot; Old National Business Merchant Association; South Fulton Chamber of Commerce; Southern Christian Leadership Conference; and Southtrust Bank.

The OWD coordinates the Workforce Investment Group, a partnership of job search and employment agencies at Comprehensive Career Centers inAtlanta, College Park, Fairburn and Roswell.
