Chance meeting between separated couple leads to jail for husband

A Peachtree City man is free on $83,000 bond after violating a judge’s order to refrain from contacting his estranged wife last week, police said.

James Fredrick Roth, 41, came across the victim by chance at the intersection of Ga. Highway 54 and Burch Road last Wednesday, police said. Roth and his estranged wife were both in their own vehicles at the time, said Sgt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.

According to warrants, Roth contacted the victim “for purposes of harassing and intimidating her.”

Roth had been admonished earlier this year to refrain from contacting his wife in connection with other criminal charges, according to court records.

Roth was arrested at the scene. He is charged with felony counts of aggravated stalking and possession of cocaine and one misdemeanor charge of possession of a drug-related object. The latter charges stem from items found at Roth’s business, Homebodies in Fayetteville, and his residence in Peachtree City, reports stated.

The bond on the aggravated stalking count alone was $50,000 with the rest for the cocaine and drug-related object charges. The bond was ordered by Magistrate James A. White.
