Churches schedule holiday services

Tonight, residents of the Fayette community will join people around the world as they celebrate one of the holiest events of the Christian year: Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ. Many churches in the Fayette area have planned special services for this evening, with Holy Communion served at most services. The following area churches have announced special services for Christmas Eve:

Bethany United Methodist Church, 607 Rivers Rd. in north Fayette, will have a Candlelight Communion service at 5:30 p.m. For information, call 770-964-6992 or 770-964-6999.

The Body of Christ Church International, U.S.A., 3650 Flat Shoals Rd. in College Park, will have a Christmas Eve service at 7:30 p.m. For information, call 770-472-4800.

The Catholic Church of St. Gabriel, 152 Antioch Rd. in south Fayette, will have three Masses on Christmas Eve and one on Christmas Day. Father Jimmy Adams will be the principal celebrant at all Masses. At 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Adams will preside over a vigil Mass featuring the children’s choir directed by Andy Hoeckele. At 8 p.m., the Vigil Mass will feature the Life Teen band, directed by Mrs. Amy Metzger. At midnight, Hoeckele will direct the adult choir at the traditional Midnight Mass, celebrated by Adams. Each Mass will be preceded by 30 minutes of Christmas carols sung by the choir and the congregation. At 10:30 a.m. Christmas morning, Mass will be celebrated by Adams and will feature music by Andrea Caldwell. For information, call 770-461-0492.

Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church, 2165 Ga. Hwy. 138 in Riverdale, will have two Christmas Eve services. At 7 p.m there will be a Service of Rejoicing and at 11 p.m. a Candlelight Communion service. For information, call 770-997-7117.

Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, corner of Ga. Hwy. 54 and Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City, will have a service especially for families at 4:30 p.m., with a blend of praise, traditional worship and Holy Communion. A traditional candlelight service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. A candlelight service with praise music and Holy Communion will be held at 7 p.m. and another traditional candlelight service is planned for 8:30 p.m. At 10:30 p.m., special music will be featured at a traditional candlelight service with Holy Communion. A nursery will be provided at 4:30, 6:30, and 7 p.m. On Christmas Day, worship and Holy Communion will be held at 10 a.m., followed by coffee and cookie fellowship. Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church, on Ga. Hwy. 34 between Peachtree City and Newnan, will have a Community Christmas Eve Communion service at 7 p.m., featuring reading of scripture, singing of traditional Christmas carols, message by Father David Epps, celebration of Holy Eucharist. Christ the King celebrates an “open table” which means that every baptized Christian is welcome to receive Holy Communion. For information, call 770-252-2428.

The Episcopal Church of the Nativity, 130 Antioch Rd. off Ga. Hwy. 92 South will have a family service at 3:30 p.m. with Holy Eucharist and the Children’s Pageant. At 5 p.m. the service will be a traditional Candlelight Communion service. At 10:30 p.m., there will be a Festal Service of Holy Eucharist with Choir and Incense. For information, call 770-460-6390.

The Fayetteville Christian Church, New Hope and Hickory roads in Fayetteville, will have a Christmas Eve Candflelight service at 6 p.m., featuring “45 minutes of carols, candles, and Christmas memories.” For information, call 770-461-8763.

Fayetteville First Baptist Church, 205 Stonewall Ave. in downtown Fayetteville, will have Christmas Eve services at 5:45 and 11 p.m. For information, call 770-461-8378.

Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, 175 East Lanier Ave. (Hwy. 54) in Fayetteville, will have Christmas Eve services at 4, 6, and 11 p.m. For information, call 770-461-4313.

The children of Flat Creek Baptist Church, 161 Flat Creek Trail, between Ga. Hwy. 54 and Tyrone Road, will present the Christmas story followed by the Lord’s Supper and the Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m. The preschool and younger children’s choirs will sing. For information, call 770-487-4890.

The Greek Orthodox Mission worshiping at the Fayette Family YMCA, Huiet Road at Ga. Hwy. 54, will have the Feast of the Nativity, offering Orthros at 6 p.m. and Divine Liturgy at 7 p.m., followed by Christmas readings, carols and fellowship. The Very Rev. Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church, 1183 Ga. Hwy. 92 South, will have a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. For information, call 770-461-5318.

Inman United Methodist Church, 151 Hills Bridge Rd. off Ga. Hwy. 92 South, will have a Christmas Eve service for children at 6 p.m. and a traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion service at 10 p.m. For information, call 770-461-2123.

National Heights Baptist Church, 103 Old Norton Rd. at its intersection with Hwy. 54 west of Fayetteville will have a Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion service at 7 p.m. For information, call 770-461-1704.

New Beginnings Praise and Worship Center, 101 Kenwood Rd. off Ga. Hwy. 85 North, will have a Christmas Candlelight Service from 6 - 7 p.m. For information, call 770-461-4612.

North Fayette United Methodist, 847 New Hope Rd., will have a Contemporary Candlelight service in the Grove, Activities Center at 6 p.m. At 8 p.m., the church will have lessons and carols in the sanctuary. A nursery will be provided for both services. At 11 p.m. there will be a traditional Christmas Eve celebration with the Handbell and Chancel choirs in the sanctuary. Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Ga. Hwy. 314 in Fayetteville, will have Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Services, offered at 4 p.m. (a “Living Nativity”) in the Life Center and at 7, 9 and 11 p.m. in the sanctuary.
