CCSU Alum. Assoc. has new president Clayton College and State Universitys new Alumni Association President, Michael McCullough, conferred the December 2003 Clayton State graduating class into the Clayton College and State University Alumni Association last week. McCullough, a Certified Public Accountant for the State of Georgia and resident of Stockbridge, has been treasurer for the Alumni Association and member since 1999. He began his term as president in July of this year. An integral part of the graduation ceremony, McCullough has been looking forward to the inaugural address and to the future of Clayton States Alumni Association. Since the beginning of the year, the Board has been meeting monthly and working with Dr. Harden to write a business plan and a new Guiding Philosophy and Mission & Purpose statement, said McCullough in a recent interview. In the spring of this year, the Board adopted the new culture and mission of the organization, one that we believe should be a living document, not just words on paper. The focus of the Alumni Association has been redirected to include an increase of campus activity involvement, including the Spring Fling and Open House, Homecoming, and numerous Job Fairs. In February they will be hosting Heart Attack: A Red, White and 2 Party for Valentines Day in conjunction with the Office Student Life and Activities. In addition, to help increase revenue, a dues schedule will be established; new graduates will be exempt for one year. The purpose of collecting dues is to help the organization become self-sufficient. Only in this way, can we provide for the needs of the membership and for Clayton State, said McCullough. We work to identify products and services that further our mission while improving the membership experience. We provide only products or services useful to CCSU or the membership when they can be provided responsibly and at a reasonable cost ... thats part of the guiding philosophy we recently adopted. McCullough credits Past President Thomas George for managing the organization throughout this period of change. I had the luxury of being able to come in and start to refocus the direction of the organization. It really has turned around and it is starting to gather real momentum, he said. He also credits the Alumni Board members and the Office of Development/Alumni Relations, noting that Reda Rowell (director) and her crew do a lot of work and we could not have come as far as we have without the support of her office and the alumni volunteers. Still in the development stage, the Alumni Board has been designing an annual benefits package for members and will include an Alumni Association Membership card. They are hoping the membership will be able to use this card for a variety of privileges, including discounts to corporate sponsors products and services, discounts to the bookstore, career placement assistance, and campus parking. As part of the package, a LINX card will be made available to those members who want library privileges; and in addition, they will receive invitations to sponsored events at Spivey Hall and other special events designed to establish organizational identity and encourage participation. Members who keep their contact information current with the Office of Development/Alumni Relations can look forward to advance notice of public events that the Alumni Association will be participating in or hosting. The Alumni organization is growing to meet the needs of Clayton State graduates with many unique and exciting activities planned. If you are interested in sponsoring, contributing or joining Clayton College & State University's Alumni Association, contact Rowell at 770-961-3681, alumni@mail.clayton.edu, or go to their website for the latest information at http://adminservices.clayton.edu/alumni2/. e exhibited in the Airport Atrium and at todays event.
