A Fayetteville man tried to kidnap his girlfriend outside of Fayetteville Intermediate School Monday morning but was arrested minutes after the incident, police said.

The dispute began earlier at the Weatherly Walk apartment complex, where Michael Craddock, 39, pushed the woman into the headboard of a bed, causing a head injury, according to police.

The victim, who was slightly injured, got away from Craddock, who later tried to force her into his truck at the school’s parking lot, said Lt. Beverly Trainor of the Fayetteville Police Department.

None of the students were in danger, Trainor added.

A description of the truck was broadcast to officers in the area, who pulled Craddock over on Ga. Highway 85 north near the Krystal restaurant. He was arrested at the scene.

Craddock was charged with one felony count of kidnapping and one misdemeanor count of simple battery.
