Ferrell sworn in as president of County Officers Assn.

Coweta County Tax Commissioner Tommy Ferrell has been sworn in as president of the County Officers Association of Georgia. He will serve a one-year term beginning Jan. 1.

The swearing-in of new officers was the highlight of the County Officers banquet held during the association’s recent Fall Conference Nov. 19 at the Westin Resort on the Savannah River.

The County Officers Association is an umbrella association made up of 600-plus members of the four individual associations of constitutional officers. The constitutional officers, as established by the Georgia Constitution, are Tax Commissioners, Sheriffs, Probate Judges and Clerks of Court.

Jack Morton, former state Deputy Revenue Commissioner and former executive director of the Georgia Association of Tax Officials, was asked by incoming President Ferrell to handle the swearing in ceremonies.

Also in attendance at the banquet were several members of Farrell’s family, including his wife, Pat; parents, James and Mary Ferrell; sister, Pam Clemmons and husband Tommy; brother, Greg Ferrell and wife Diane; daughter, Jenny Dixon; and son, Jamie Ferrell.

In addressing those in attendance after being sworn in, Ferrell stated, “It is a great honor to be sworn in as president of the County Officers Association. Having my family here to be a part of the ceremony just made it that more special.”

He stated he would continue the good work of previous presidents over the past several years and strive to make the association even more useful and beneficial to its members.

Tommy has been Coweta County’s Tax Commissioner since 1979 and served as president of the Georgia Association of Tax Officials in 1997-1998. He was voted Tax Commissioner of the Year in 2002. He is also a past president of the Newnan Kiwanis Club.
