The musical “Annie” is not often thought of as a Christmas show and it’s performances often occur year-round. The story has a distinct Christmas theme though and it is the perfect show to bring your family to this holiday season.

For those unfamiliar with the story, Annie is a little, red-headed orphan stuck in an orphanage run by the evil Miss Hannigan. Billionaire Daddy Warbucks gets convinced by one of his employees to take an orphaned child in for the holidays. Warbucks grudgingly agrees, soon learns to love Annie, the orphan he chose, and decides to adopt her. When Hannigan hears of the this, she concocts a plan with her ex-con brother Rooster, to get Annie back and get a wad of cash to boot.

“Annie” is one of the more popular musicals in broadway history. it has been made into a movie and has also been remade for television. Some of the songs from the show include “Hard Knock Life,” “Maybe,” and of course, “Tomorrow.”

The cast of the show is typically large, but Newnan Community theatre has an even larger cast as there are two teams of girls sharing the roles of the orphans. The teams, Delta and Omega, will split the performances, giving the girls ample time to rest between performances and giving more girls an opportunity to participate.

The Delta team is Annie: Laurel Ann Robinson; Molly: Stephanie Crews; Tessie: Allison Sullivan; Kate: Sarah Mason; Pepper: Laura Allen; July: Diana Ruppenthal and Duffy: Danielle Ruppenthal. They wil perform Saturdays, Dec. 6 and 13, Sundays, Dec. 14 and 21 and Friday, Dec. 19. The Omega team is Annie: Rachel Snow; Molly: Katy Wilson; Tessie: Tori Blackburn; Kate: Eleanor Lee; Pepper: Lauren Watring; July: Caitlin Wade and Duffy: Kristin Harris. They will perform Fridays, Dec. 5 and 12, Sunday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. and Saturdays, Dec. 13 and 20.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. The Saturday matinee on Dec. 13 is also at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 an under. Phone 770-683-NCTC or visit http://newnanthatre.com.
