Haverty’s truck storage plan back to Fayetteville council

A request from Haverty’s Furniture to create outdoor storage areas for its delivery trucks will be considered a second time by the Fayetteville City Council at its meeting Thursday night.

Haverty’s officials say the trucks are necessary to their business since they deliver furniture orders throughout the area. The Fayetteville and Southlake Mall-area stores are the only two Haverty’s on the south side of Atlanta.

The delivery business didn’t sit well with several city council members when it was discussed at the previous meeting. Residents who live behind the business have complained about the noise and pollution from the trucks.

Haverty’s officials propose to use landscaping and a brick wall to screen the trucks’ view from the nearby homes and the adjacent Johnny Carino’s restaurant.

Council also is expected to vote on a commercial rezoning for the Fayetteville Masonic Lodge, which is currently zoned for multi-family use. The lodge has agreed to deed a part of the property that has actually become a portion of a city street.
